They targeted their defense throughout the draft. Their first draft was CB Corey Webster from LSU. He record 16 interceptions in college and looks to add to the giants secondary. They also picked up running back Brandon Jacobs from Southern Illinois, defensive end Eric Moore from Florida State, and Justin Tuck a defensive end from Notre Dame. The Giants already picked up five free agent players, so all-in-all they picked up nine new members in the off season that will help them next year.

The Jets also made out well in the 2005 NFL draft. The Jets decided to target their weakest area from last year, their kicker! With the 47th overall pick in the draft, the Jets picked up kicker Mike Nugent from Ohio State. They also added; CB Justin Miller from Clemson, DT Sione Pouha from Utah, safety Kenny Rhodes from Louisville, safety Andre Maddox from N.C State, running back Cedric Houston from Tennessee, TE Joel Dreessen from Colorado State, and wide receiver Harry Williams from Tuskegee. With all of their new additions, the Jets look to beat out the New England Patriots to win their division. The NYJ's bid of $250 million was accepted in a 14-0 vote by the MTA board. The problem now is that many people think that the property was worth more then that. So three interest groups and a union went to court Monday to force the MTA to reopen bidding on there West Side rail yards with the goal of getting more money for the property. Mayor Bloomberg wants the stadium to be built because he thinks it can help New York win the bid for the 2012 Olypmics. So it would be an understatement to say that the New Jets Stadium will involve alot of politics. But now it is time to get back to the beginning of the 2005-2006 NFL season. The draft will take place on April 23rd and 24th. The Jets have the 26th pick in the draft because they had a good season in 2004 so they got a lower pick. The Giants gave up their first round draft pick to the San Diego Chargers last year as part of the package to obtain Eli Manning. So the Chargers will get the 12th pick in the first round of the draft. For more information on the draft go to http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft05/index.

Burress signs four year deal

The Giants made a huge move on Thursday evening signing all star receiver Plaxico Burress to a six year deal. As a New York Giants fan I am very excited that our rookie quarterback will have a new number one receiver to throw too. I think that the Giants will be good in 2 or 3 years once they develop their offensive line. The trade was going to be player for player. The Jets were going to give up Santana Moss to acquire Laveranues Coles. I think that this would have been a good trade for the Jets because Coles used to be on their team and contributed greatly. The deal fell through because Coles demanded a better contract which the Jets were not willing to provide. I think that Coles will eventually bet traded but not to a New York Team.
